On Your Marks, Get Set, Bake! Wolfestone Hold Bake-Off in Aid of City Hospice

March 29, 2018 On Thursday the 29th of March, the Wolfestone team put their baking skills to the test for the third instalment of our Great British Bake-off style competition in aid of the Cardiff-based charity, City Hospice. IMG_8777-1024x948 Fifteen amateur chefs and bakers brought their best sweet and savoury dishes to be judged by representatives Merlin and Martin from local venue, The Hyst Coffee & Kitchen– a local events venue and daytime café serving Greek/Australian food and barista-style coffee. This year’s baking standard was exceptional. The contestants were busy the previous evening, firing up their ovens and putting their rolling pins to work to prepare fantastic dishes of both the sweet and savoury variety. Entries included vegetarian lasagne calzones, chocolate brownies and lemon drizzle cakes. Merlin and Martin had the difficult task of crowning a star baker for both the sweet and savoury categories. It was a difficult task and the competition was fierce, but a winner must be crowned! This year's savoury winner was Linda Roper with her "Picnic Tear and Share" bread – containing olives, cheese, ham and mustard. And the sweet winner went to Abdallah Sultan with his delicious lemon drizzle cake. Untitled-design-8 Marketing Manager, Linda Roper, said: "I'm chuffed to have won this year's competition... finally! I've been perfecting my bake over the past three years and the hard work has paid off. We'd like to say a big thanks to Merlin and Martin for taking the time to come and judge our bakes." Although, it isn’t all about the competition! The aim of our Easter bake-off was to sell each dish to raise money for City Hospice – and we had no trouble selling the delicious bakes to a very hungry Wolfestone team. Managing Director, Alex Parr had this to say: "This is the third year we've held the bake off and it never fails to deliver. The entries this year were, again, amazing and it just goes to show how multi-talented our staff are! Events like this are a great opportunity to bring the team together and all for great cause in raising much-needed funds for City Hospice."

City Hospice: Supporting Patients Facing Life-Limiting Illness

Founded in 1983, City Hospice is Cardiff’s local hospice, caring for patients and families across the city. City Hospice provide specialist services to patients and families facing life-limiting illness. They offer specialist palliative care to patients in their own homes so that patients can remain independent for as long as possible. They also support patients and families by helping them to come to terms with a life-limiting illness, by providing opportunities to meet other people facing a life-limiting illness and by helping patients and families overcome financial difficulties. City Hospice provide their specialist service at no cost to patients or their families, which means that they have the difficult task of raising £1m a year. Wolfestone are proud to support City Hospice in raising the funds needed to continue this essential service. For more information on City Hospice, visit the charity’s website here.
